Saturday 25th July

All 60 sheep in two groups in the Central compartment. One group sheltering from the rain under the silver birches and the rest by the trough - all seemed well. Hampshire gate secure and trough OK. Tim & Pippa Evans

Flock returned to central comp, Hampshire gate closed

A damp day with some chalkhill blues bravely bouncing through the precipitation.

The sheep were in the western compartment woods, not far from the Hampshire gate.

With the lure of the sheep nuts they followed me into the central compartment. After taking them a good way along the path I nipped back to close the gate. When I returned to the flock they had melted off into the scrub so I didn't manage an accurate headcount but it was close to 60.

Fenceline intact between central and western compartments. One strainer rotten and leaning, just downhill of the beechwood treeline.

No sheep spotted as I zigzagged my way out via the western compartment. A full headcount would confirm they are all together.

Hampshire gate reopened due to lone sheep

Clare rang to say one sheep was distressed, pacing up and down the western fenceline. We decided it was best she reopened the Hampshire gate so it could rejoin the flock.

I'll go up tomorrow morning to call them all into the central compartment and close the Hampshire gate. If you beat me to it and they're all in the central compartment do shut the gate!

Fri 24th Jul

60 sheep moved to central compartment. Hampshire gate now closed. Water turned on. Will clean trough on Monday.

Monday 20th July

I headed all 60 back into central but failed to be quick enough to close Hampshire gate before some swiftly got back in. So Hampshire gate is still open. Trough level falling a little. All sheep look well.
Chalkhill blues are out on the reserve :)

Sunday 19th July

"We have just come back from the Downs

But I'm afraid we did not see any sheep.

We found the trough and nuts and walked through the two compartments.

There was a very noisy family at the gypsy swing/ plumb pudding and it was rather hot.

We heard a baa further up and lots of fresh droppings but after an hour of walking we had failed."

This is a quote from the volunteers who went today. Pippa Evans   17:20

17/07 - opened Hampshire gate between two compartments

Found three in wrong compartment. They were reluctant to join herd. Left open Hampshire gate so they have access to trough . looks at if the plain wire has lost its tension and one central strainer post is rotten. Short term fix would be retensioning the plain wire .

Trough was full and the correct sheep are there just not all in the right compartment

sheep sprayed

We have been and tried to spray them all for fly and ticks. Unfortunately we were unable to get 8 of them. The other 52 have been sprayed so we will be back hopefully at some point soon to get the others. All fit and well though

Sunday 5th July

The village volunteer found all was well but couldn't guarantee there were 60 sheep.  Pippa Evans

03/07

All sheep present and looking healthy. The trough was full but the ball valve wasn't responding to pressure and therefore no more water was coming through. Could the mains have been turned off? (Emailed Mike)
